More manners and respect, light and shadows, lego...again!
Over the last week we have worked more on remembering our good manners, how to be polite to people, and talked about why it's nice to have good manners.
We had a bit of a clear out after Christmas and gave some of Vinnie's baby toys away. We talked about why it was good to pass on things we didn't use any more. We gave some to a charity shop and talked about why we do this sometimes, that the charity can sell the things to make money and use that money to help other people.
We had a big project this last week - building the Lego Carousel!
This is the trickiest set we have ever had. It is marked as "Expert" on the box! We built it over 4 separate days so we wouldn't get too overwhelmed. It was fab for seeing how cogs worked in the mechanism inside and how as parts turned, other bits moved up and down. It was also a test of concentration and following instructions.

We both loved seeing how it came together at the various stages! It was certainly challenging to build but we worked well as a team. There were several bits where we had to build 4 or 6 or more of the same piece so we could divide them and make half each. So a bit of maths practice too!
One section was a bit too fiddly for Vinnie so while he waited for me to build it, he read some of his library book - "Journey to the Centre of the Earth". It made me laugh that I was doing lego and he was reading a book.

When we weren't building our lego carousel, we were doing lots of other fun activities! Vinnie had his first official gymnastics lesson and did really well. He enjoyed it so much that he said he wished he could go every day.
We also had a party for Vinnie's toy monkey. Vinnie made a sign to announce the occasion!

Vinnie made some ramps to roll his cars down.

We made a painting for Vinnie's Grandpa's birthday. We taped a big letter G to a piece of paper then used some nice bold colours to paint over it. Then we peeled the G off to leave that bit as white. We made a frame out of cardboard and Vinnie decorated the frame with stickers.

Vin was considerate and thought about the types of things that Grandpa would like. That showed good consideration and respect! Our theme must be rubbing off!
I printed out a letter sorting activity from Totschooling. Vin had to sort out the uppercase and lowercase letters onto the correct tree.

Then he had to match up the letters onto the right spaces. We just did capital letters so far and will try the lower case ones another time.

We had an experiment with water colour pencils. We drew pictures (Vinnie chose train themed ones) using some regular colours and some water colour pencils, then brushed water on them.

We read the Mr Men story "Mr Rude". We came up with some polite things Mr Rude could have said and done instead. After we had read it, Vinnie decided he would like us to pretend to be Mr Rude and Mr Happy from the end of the book and be friends who cook a feast for all the other Mr Men and act very politely!

We've done the next lesson on Mystery Science which has been all about how the Earth rotates which makes the sun look like it moves across the sky. We did experiments with paper cut outs and using a torch to move the shadows.
We've also played lots, talked about what happens when you post a letter, built robots, read lots of books and loads of other things that I've already forgotten!
